PEMBROKESHIRE’S

exhilarating coast path has
many a splendid stretch, but
nowhere is the scenery quite
as wild and wonderful as
it is on rounding Strumble
Head from the east. For the
next few miles headingsouth
the views arespectacular:
an indented coastline of
precipitous cliffs, dramatic
headlands and secluded bays.
e bare Pen Caer peninsula
leading outto Strumble
Head is notablefor itsrocky
outcrops,in particular
Garn Fawr,crownedby an
Iron Age fort, with superb
views. With the exception
of Strumble Head itself –
popular with bird watchers
(and accessible by car) – this
is a quiet and lonely section
of coastline: an ideal choice

path that climbs directly to top
(trig point). Return same way.
Continue along CP eventually
descending to Aber Bach.

(^3)  
Usually stream trickles
through pebble beach here
and is easy to cross. But if not,
i.e. after heavy rain, there’san
alternative inland route signed
along valley path via road bridge.
Or just remove footwear and
wade across!
(^4) 
Just W of Abercastle, short
detour to view Careg
Sampson is worthwhile. At Aber
DrawturnLuplanebacktoTrefin
(or as shortcut turn off CP as
signed just after Pwll Offa).
