Olivet College announces Vicki J. Stouffer as VP for advancement

Olivet College has
announced the appointment
of Vicki J. Stouffer, CFRE,
as the vice president for
advancement. She holds
more than 20 years of experi-
ence in higher education
fundraising leadership and
institutional advancement.
As the vice president for
advancement, Stouffer will
serve as the senior leader in
the Office for Advancement,
providing support to the
development and alumni
engagement teams.
“Vicki brings an aspira-
tional vision to Olivet
College and the Office of
Advancement,” said Olivet
College President Steven M.
Corey, Ph.D. “She has a pas-
sion for higher education,
stewardship and fundraising.
Her strong record of leader-
ship and achievement within
higher education will serve
Olivet College well, espe-
cially her ability to build a
foundation of trust and col-
laboration with alumni and
community members for the
benefit of the students.”
Stouffer previously

worked at Lourdes University
in Sylvania, Ohio, as the vice
president for institutional
advancement and at the
Central Michigan University
(CMU) College of Medicine
in Mount Pleasant as the
assistant dean for medical
school development. At
Lourdes, Stouffer secured a
21% revenue increase and a
38% average gift increase
during her first year through
a redesigned fundraising

strategy. She also initiated a
corporate support program to
replace its long-standing
gala, resulting in $750,000-
plus corporate/foundation
attainment. While at CMU,
Stouffer attained over
$780,000 in community
grants and awards in her first
year, and boosted the aver-
age gift size by 15% each
year.
“My personal values con-
nect to Olivet College’s mis-
sion of education that enrich-
es lives intellectually, moral-
ly and spiritually to a diverse
campus community. The
study of the Liberal Arts
gives students the tools they
need to adapt, persevere and
succeed in the world in
which we are living, and to
connect to the world tomor-
row will bring. I am pleased
to join this values-based
institution because I passion-
ately believe in education’s
ability to change the trajecto-
ry of peoples’ lives, broaden
perspectives and foster inno-
vation,” Stouffer said. “One
of the most important jobs
we have as fundraisers is to
help donors make a differ-
ence in their lives by giving
them an opportunity to make
a significant impact through
philanthropy. I am excited to
work to strengthen Olivet’s
ties to alumni, build a stron-
ger tradition of annual giving
and to prepare the major gifts
team for a successful future
campaign.”
Stouffer is experienced in
strategic leadership and plan-

advancement in addition to
her role as special assistant
to the president and provost.
She will continue to serve
the Office of the President,

funding to support important
programs and initiatives.

MUMC hosts Vacation Bible School event

July 28, “Blessing of the Backpacks’ Aug. 15

After a year or so of navi-
gating a pandemic world, a
lot has changed for the com-
munity of Marshall. Many
events were postponed or
cancelled, the new social
norm of mask-wearing took
place, and conversations
happened over the screen. As
the world emerges into an era
where many of these things
return to normal, Marshall
United Methodist Church is
looking to return to normal
too. Well, sort of.
At the beginning of July,
Marshall UMC, located just
north of downtown Marshall
on Old 27 welcomed new
Senior Pastor Rev. Erin
Fitzgerald. Her husband,
Rev. Joel Fitzgerald, is also
United Methodist clergy, and
was simultaneously appoint-
ed to serve at First UMC of
Albion. Erin and Joel are
excited to get to know the
community of Marshall and
participate in its many
famous events.
MUMC also welcomed
two additional staff members
in the past month. Rob

Monahan is the new director
of Modern Worship, while
Maddy Martinson is serving
as the interim Discipleship
Director.
Even though MUMC has
experienced a lot of change
recently, one thing has not
changed: summer communi-
ty outreach programs
MUMC has two summer
events coming up for the
community, Vacation Bible
School and Blessing of the
Backpacks.
After each of these events
was modified to fit the
COVID protocols in the
summer of 2020, the staff at
Marshall UMC has decided
to take a step in the direction
of what was considered “nor-
mal.”
Vacation Bible School,
with the theme of “Deep
Dive,” will be held on
Wednesday, July 28 from
5:30-8:30 p.m. Unlike previ-
ous years, this one-night
event will be focused on the
entire family. Kids in grades
K-5 and their families and
loved ones are invited to the

church for a free dinner,
music and several activities
relating to water.
“We really want to make
Vacation Bible School hap-
pen this year. But we also
want to prioritize the health
and safety of our kids and
families, especially as they
go back to school next
month,” Martinson said.
“This is going to be a fun
night where people of all
ages can participate with
their loved ones!”
A few weeks after VBS,
the church will also be hold-
ing its 4th Annual “Blessing
of the Backpacks” event.
Families with school-aged
children can come to the
church and receive a free
backpack stuffed with school
supplies to begin the school
year strong. Backpacks will
be distributed on a first-
come, first-serve basis. There
will also be an opportunity to
shop at the There’s Enough
Free Store pop-up tent. This
event will be happening on
Sunday, Aug. 15 from 2-
p.m.

An online registration
form for VBS can be found
on Marshall UMC’s
Facebook page, or email
Martinson with questions or
a request for the form at
maddymartinson19@gmail.

com. You can also reach out
with questions about
Blessing of the Backpacks at
the same address, or you can
call the church at 269- 781-

  1. For those who would
    like to donate backpacks or

school supplies, drop-offs
can be made at the church,
Monday through Thursday
between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Rev. Erin Fitzgerald, left, and Maddy Martinson are ready for “Deep Dive” Vacation
Bible School and Blessing of the Backpacks coming up in July and August.
