4 From the Layers panel menu, choose New Group from Layers. The New Group from
Layers dialog box appears. Type banner in the Name text box, and then click OK.

Choose to group the layers.

5 Click the Add Layer Mask button at the bottom of the Layers panel. A mask is added to
the entire group of layers you created.

Add a mask to the banner group.

6 Select the Gradient tool ( ) from the Tools panel and press D. This restores the
foreground and background colors to their defaults (black and white).

7 Click the Gradient Picker in the Options bar and make sure you have the Foreground to
Background gradient selected.
