Chapter 7
PLANT
REQUIREMENTS
A plant’s growth rate, high and yield are
determined mostly by its genetic material.
No matter how well the plant’s needs are
met, it can only grow up to its potential.
The environmental factors affecting
plant growth are light, root conditions,
water, nutrients, temperature and air (CO 2
and O 2 ). A plant can grow only as fast as
the weakest link on the chain permits. For
instance, when a plant which receives all of
the light, water, and CO 2 it can use, without
adequate nutrients, its growth is thwarted.
