Gear Knob,
Thetopmostpartofthegearstickwhichhasnumbersanddirectionsengravedonitisknownas
thegearknob.Itisalsoknownasgearknob,shiftknob,gearshiftknoborstickshiftknob.The
directionsandthenumbersengravedinthegearknobarepositionsinwhichthestickshould
movetoselect agear. Manyhigh-endvehicleshaveaswitchonthetopofthegearknob.
Pressing this switch enables overdrive.
Overdriveisaspecialmodethatallowstheautomobiletomoveatasustainedspeed.Itisa
beneficial feature as it leads to betterfuel consumption, lowers the noise of the engine,
decreases the RPM or in other words reduces the damagecaused to the engine.
Thegear knobsofautomaticcarscanhaveaswitchthatenablessportsmods.Amodethat
makes the throttle more sensitive and thus providesmore acceleration to the vehicle.
