Height mismatches,
The height and the place where the bumpersareplaced are decidedunder regulations.
Bumperscannotprotectonefrommoderateaccidentsasinthissituationemergencybrakesare
tobeappliedthatinterfereswiththecarheight.Bumperheightisalsoimportantasairbags
functiononlywhena carhitsanobject,duetothepresenceofbumperstherewillbeenough
time for airbags to inflate.
When acollision occursbetween acar and atruck,therearechancesthatthe carslides
beneaththetruckleadingtosevereinjuriestothecarpassengersthusthereareregulationsof
havingafrontalsoftbumperintruckstominimisetheimpactalongwithsidebumpersincase
there is a sideways collision.


Regulations,
Inmostcountries,itiscompulsoryforacartohavebumpersduetovariousadvantagesas
discussedabove.Butthereisacontradictionthatthebumpersthathaveminimalrepaircost
can prove lethal for the pedestrians whereas the bumpers that are favourable for the
pedestrianshavehighrepaircosts.Eventhoughbumpershavemanyadvantages,mostofthe
bumpers are made such that they satisfy only basicregulatory standards.


ThesafetyregulationswereformedinEuropeancountriesbutarenowfollowedinmostofthe
countries. The regulation says that all the functions of the car shouldworknormallyif it
undergoesa frontorrearcollisionataspeedof2.5mph,andalsotothecornersofthecarat
speed of 1.6mph at a distance of 45.5cm above theground whether the car is loaded or not.


Therearespecializedbumpersthatareknownasbullbarsthatareinstalledinruralvehiclesto
preventdamagethatcanbecausedduetocollisionwithlargeanimalsbutthesebeingrigid
exertsall the force onanimalsorthe pedestrianscausing severeinjuries,unliketheother
bumpers that absorbsomeamount of force.Thus under the pedestrian protectionsafety
standards, they are banned.
