astherewererumoursthatthismodelneverreallymovedonlandorwaterwiththehelpofits
steam engine.
Inthe1850sG.Bordenmadehismodelofanamphibiousvehicle.Theshapeofhismodelwas
primarilybasedonasailingboat.Itisbelievedthatthiswagoncarriedoutaverysuccessfulrum
andwasabletomoveonly 15 metersawayfromtheshorebecauseofthelackofproper
measures to cancel the water force.
Theprofessionaluseofamphibiousvehiclesstartedintheearly1870s.Theseweremadetoact
asameansoftransportationofgoodsbetweenCanadaandthe northernpartofAmerica.
ThesevehicleswerecalledAlligatorandweresteam-powered.Thesevehicleswereabletocross
lakes and rivers easily and were manufactured by acompany based in Ontario, Canada.
