Early cars had a windshield that was made form an ordinary window glass. The main
disadvantagewasthatduringaneventofanaccident,breakingofglassaddstotheinjuriesof
driverorpassengers.Asweknow,manlearnsfromhisownmistakes;aseriesofcrashesledto
thedevelopmentoftoughenedwindshields.Thesetoughenedglasseswereassembledinthe
frameusinganeopreneseal.Oneadvantageofusingthistoughenedglasswasthatduringan
eventofanaccident,thisshieldbrokeintosmallpiecesofharmlessglassbutasmallblowwas
abletoshatterthisglass.Luckilytherewasaninventionoflaminatedglass(Triplex)duringthat
period.


Laminatedglassisasuperiorqualityofglassthatholdstogetherthepiecesofglassevenwhen
itisshattered.Whenalaminatedglassbrakestheinterlayerthatweintroduceearlierasplastic
hastheelementsofbrokenglasstogetherthuspreventingbreakingofglassintohugeandsharp
pieces;thisisthemainreasonwhyweseethespiderwebpatternwhenthewindshieldbreaks.
Also,itis observedthatthisquality ofglassshowssomesound-absorbingproperties;thus,
modern vehicles have laminated glasses installed inthem.


Intheearly1900s,laminatedglasseswereavailableinFranceandBritainforuse.Itwaslater
adopted bythe American car manufactures andlaterbytheendofthe1920’smanycars
manufactures like Ford manufactured cars that hadlaminated glasses installed in them.
