hey say a picture is worth 1, 000 words.

When it comes to explaining numerical

data, it’s probably worth more. A page full

of figures, like sales by date or region, takes a lot

of effort to analyse, but when those figures are

displayed as a bar chart, you can see at a glance

what they mean. The largest and smallest upsand

downs over time can easily be seen in a chart.

Inserting a chart into a Pages document like

a report for work, school or university is easier

than you might think. There are many different

chart types available – here, we look at interactive

charts. These provide controls that enable the

data to be explored and shown in different ways.

How does it work?
Interactive charts can be confusing at
first sight. What do they show? The
figures can be shown one column or
one row at a time,depending onthe
button in the corner of the Chart Data
window.Clicking the buttons or slider
under the chart displays the next or
previous column or row. Only one at a
time is visible.

The interactive chart shows one row or

column at a time and the chart control moves

forward and back a column or row. Click

these buttons to switch between showing

rows and columns.

Open the chart data
window and edit the
labels and dummy data to
replace it with your own.
Ctrl+click the row or left
column to insert more rows
or columns asneeded for
your data.

Interactive control

This is what makes the chart interactive.

Click the next/previous buttons to show

the next column or row of data, or drag

the slider. These dots are data columns or

rows. Click them to jump there.

Choose a chart

Don’t worry about choosing the right

chart to insert into the document. Click

here to switch chart types and click

the style buttons at the top. See which

shows off the data most clearly.
