Step-by-step Copy and paste text from images
4
Select the text
A crosshair cursor will appear on the
screen. Use it to highlight the text that you
want to capture. Everything you select will
darken, showing exactly what will be used.
5
Copy to clipboard
Once you’ve captured the text that you
want to run through TextSniper’s Optical
Character Recognition system, let go and it’ll
be copied to the clipboard.
6
Paste the text
You can now open a text editing app or
a word processor – we are using Pages. Paste
the words you’ve copied to the clipboard
using cmd+V on the keyboard.
1
Install TextSniper
You can download TextSniper by visiting
the developer’s website at textsniper.app
or by purchasing it from the App Store. After
installing, it places an icon in the menu bar.
2
Find some text
You’ll often come across text that
cannot be highlighted, perhaps because
they’re embedded within an image or a non-
selectable PDF. This report is an example.
3
Capture the text
The easiest way to activate TextSniper is
to press shift+cmd+ 2 on the keyboard, or else
click the app’s icon in the toolbar and select
the ‘Capture Text’ option.
TextSniper will even capture wordsfromvideos
Capture text from any image
on your Mac
Although macOS Monterey will let you capture text from any
picture, there’s already a tool that does the job well
O
f all of the forthcoming features for
macOS Monteray, one in particular
caused jaws to slacken. It was the new
Live Text feature, which will allow words within
images to be highlighted, copied and pasted.
Now, there’s more to this function, which is
why it’s so exciting. It’s an interactive feature, so
if a telephone number is detected, then it’ll be
possible to make a call..
But if you’re simply after copying and pasting
text in images and documents where words
cannot be selected, you can carry out that task
today on macOS Catalina and Big Sur thanks to
TextSniper. Here, we look at how it works.
