Step-by-step Save emails as PDFs to Books

View the PDF

The printer options are hidden, and the

email appears almost full screen. This is a PDF

document now, no longer an email. We can

do what we want with it.

Save to Books

Tap the share icon, and share options

appear at the bottom. Swipe through them

until you see the Books icon, and press it to

import it into Books.

Read in Books

The PDF file of the email opens in the

Books app. Swipe left and right to browse

through the pages like an eBook, or tap ‘AA’

and select ‘Vertical Scrolling’ like an email.

Open an email

Open the Mailapp on the iPhone and

select an email to save. Here, we have chosen

to save the announcement of the new M1

iMac. Tapthe actions (arrow) button.

Choose an action

Tapping the actions button shows only

half the menu options. Pull it up the screen

to reveal them all. The one you want is ‘Print’,

right down at the bottom. Press ‘Print’.

Secret print action

A preview of the email is on the Printer

Options screen. Use a secret feature: Convert

the printout into a PDF by pressing and

spreading a finger and thumb on theimage.

Markup your emails

annotate emails

Any PDF file that is imported into Apple

Books can also be annotated using the

Markup tools that have been provided by

iOS. This includes PDFs that have been

created from emails, which makes it a

veryuseful feature for adding notes or for

highlighting certain parts of the email. It

is probablya goodidea to use the Collections

feature of the Books app in order to

organise email PDFs into their own collection.

PDFs can be shared with others, so you

also have the option of passing it on to

someone else.

Annotate email PDFs

Open an email saved as a PDF file in

Books, and press the Markup button at the

top to enable the tools. Select drawing tools

at the bottom, choose a colour and draw on

the email and highlight sections.

Organise email PDFs

It is useful to separate emails from the

rest of the eBooks. On the main screen, tap

the ‘...’ icon on an email PDF thumbnail and

select ‘Add to Collection’ from the menu.

Create a new collection and name it ‘Emails’.
