Stop stalkers in their tracks

Are these measures enough?
Apple’s anti-stalking measures go some
way to protecting users but there are
still problems. By the time victims are
alerted, much info may have already
been shared,including addresses.
Victims also often live with their abusers
and may be frightened to seek help.

Helpline on 0808 802 0300.

Remove the battery
An AirTag’s battery can be removed by opening
the device. Push down on the back plate and
twist it anticlockwise to remove the battery
View the serial number
Every AirTag has a serial number. It appears
when you tap ‘Learn About This AirTag’; you’ll
see it when you hold your iPhone over the
device; and it’s written inside the AirTag itself.
Call the cops
If you believe you are being stalked, Apple says
law enforcement only needs to obtain a court
order to obtain details of its owner. You can save
the serial number to ensure you don’t lose it.
Using an Android
phone?
Android phones can be used to
scan AirTags but Android users
will only be alerted three days
after an AirTag is seen to be
following them. Apple says it’s
looking to reduce that timescale.
