Answer FaceTime calls

using your voice

With compatible headphones, you’re now able to answer
incoming calls on iPad using your voice

P

icking up your iPad when someone is trying to
call you via FaceTime isn’t always convenient.
You may be carrying something bulky, or have
mucky fingers, making you think twice about touching
your iPad or headphones. With a set of compatible
headphones, however, things have become a little
easier thanks to Siri’s latest voice ability.

Upgrade to iPadOS 14.5 and above (or iOS 14.5 for
iPhone), and you can get Siri to answer or decline any
incoming calls. Siri will start by telling you who is calling,
and prompt you for your instruction, allowing you to
chat or save time by avoiding scammers or unwanted
callers. It’s a shame there’s no way to use your voice to
end calls, but here’s how you can set everything up.

Set up voice answering for FaceTime

1

Delve into Settings
To instruct Siri to answer FaceTime calls
on your iPad, you need to update to at least
iPadOS 14.5, and turn the function on in
Settings. Tap ‘FaceTime’, or ‘Siri & Search’.

2

Tap Announce Calls
Ensure ‘Allow Siri When Locked’ is turned
on, and tap ‘Announce Calls’. This feature
gets Siri to read out who is calling so you don’t
need to pick up your iPad (or iPhone).

3

Make a choice
By default, Announce Calls is set
to ‘Never’, so choose if you only want
an announcement to be issued via your
headphones, your car, or in every situation.
