Launch Settings app
The ability to type rather than dictate
your Siri requests is not activated by default.
To turn it on you need to launch the Settings
app, then navigate to ‘Accessibility’.

2

Find the function
Scroll through the Accessibility settings

  • the function is quite far down the list –
and you will see ‘Type To Siri’. As we’ve
mentioned, this is turned off by default.

3

Turn it on
Simply click on ‘Type To Siri’ to activate.
Now it will be possible for you to enter text if
you don’t want to speak when you next call
upon Siri to help you locate something.

Quietly (and accurately) ask Siri

S

ometimes, no matter how many
times you utter a phrase, Siri doesn’t
quite understand what you’re asking
it to do. It’ll launch an app that you don’t
want launching, or look for content that
you don’t desire at that moment in time.
As such, it can lead to much frustration at
having to repeat yourself. Speaking in a
posh accent doesn’t always cut it, either.
The option to type your request is a
welcome one, and as of tvOS 14.5 and
above that’s exactly what you’re now able
to do. It takes no time at all to activate
and will ensure your requests are noted
accurately via an on-screen keyboard. It
also comes in handy if you feel a little self-
conscious verbally asking Siri questions – a
reason why this function has been a hit on
iOS and iPadOS for some time.
