5.3 Du mai

Location

On the midline, midway between the tip of the coccyx and the

anus.

How to find

First, locate the coccyx superior to the anus, then palpate for its

tip. From the tip of the coccyx, palpate with pressure towards

the anus. Du-1can often be located based on a strong deQi

sensation.

➞Ren-1is located anterior to the anus, posterior to the genitals.

➞BL-35is located 0.5 cun lateral to the midline, at the level of

the tip of the coccyx.

Needling

After thorough disinfection, vertically 0.5–1 cun. Avoid punc-

turing the rectum.

Actions/Indications

● Clears Damp-Heat, lifts the Qi

● Opens the channel and alleviates pain

● Calms the shen

Special features

Luo-connecting point, meeting point with the ren mai, G.B. and

KID channels.
