Understand the process of enumeration. Make sure you can identify the process of sys-

tem hacking and how it is carried out against a system and what the end results are for the

attacker and the defender.

Know the different types of ports. Understand the differences between the different types

of ports; specifically know port numbers and the differences between TCP and UDP. Know

that the two different port types are used for different reasons.

Know your protocols. Understand the differences between SNMP, SMTP, HTTP, FTP,

RCP, and other protocols and where you might find them.
