On a stormy day, theconcrete slipway by the harbour is goodfor ten-stop ND shots. Ebb’s Nook, a long, rocky peninsula, is worth a look too – walktowards the end and use long exposures tocapture motion in the sea and sky.Seahouses is the busiest village on thisstretchof coast. It’s where boats head tothe Farne Islands from (greatfor puffins andother seabirds in the summer) and has a busyharbour where you can shoot pilesof lobsterpots, nets andfi shing boats. On a calm, sunny day the harbour looks fantastic, but indull weather you’re unlikely to be inspired.Three miles northof Seahouses, you’llfi nd Northumberland’s most imposingcastleat Bamburgh. Set high on a volcanicoutcrop known as the Great Whin Sill,Bamburgh castle enjoys a dramatic positionoverlooking the nearby sandy beach andvillage. It’s a year-round location that’s bestphotographed from down on the beachwhere you can use barnacle-encrustedrocks, shallow pools or ripples in the sandas foreground interest. Head thereat dawnto capture the sun rising behind the castle inautumn and winter (in spring and summerit’s side-lit), then again during lateafternoonwhen the lowering sun bathes the castle andbeach in golden light. There are also goodshots to be hadof the castle from the grassydunes – on a windy day use a slow shutterspeed to blur the swaying grass.Just northof Bamburgh is Budle Bay.This sweeping bay is a popular hauntforbird watchers thanks to the wide varietyofbirdlife, but the views also make it a greatphotographic location to shoot whileyou’re in Bamburgh. It’s bestat sunset, especially on a misty evening when the sun’sorb gently sinks to the horizon. Use longexposures (20-30 seconds) to blur waveswashing against the shore. At low tide it’s``````9``````10
