AutumnInspiration8WebbedwondersWith late summer and autumncomes an abundanceof morningand evening dew, especially on leaves, bladesof grass and spider webs. In softearly light, these tiny beads sparkle likejewels beckoningfor your macro lens tomagnify them. If you don’t have a macrolens, the intricate designsof a silky webcan fill the frame with a close-focusingzoom or extension tubes. Images withshallow depth-of-field work the best soselect a large aperture, such as f/4, andadjust your angle to find the strongestcomposition. We recommend usingatripod as you need to be extremelycareful with yourfocusing. The bestimages have a dark, clean backgroundforthe bright strings to standout against, so ifyou can’t find a web that’s perfectlypositioned, use the black sideof areflector or a plamp to hold a sheetofcoloured card afew feet behind the web.AAron BurdenNove mber2016Digital slr Photography 83
