Curiosities about Ireland you

need to know

HOUSES WITH COLORFUL DOORS

In almost every house in Ireland they have
colourful doors and there are some
theories that explain this custom.
The one we liked the most is the one that says that irish men came back very
drunk home and with the colored doors, it would be easier to identify which
house was theirs.

THE IRISH ARE VERY CHARITABLE

They are so charitable, that Ireland is considered the most selfless country in Europe.
At least 70% of the Irish population contributes to charity, 37% contribute time to
volunteer work and 64% contribute help to strangers.
What an example!

FOLKLORE FULL OF MAGIC

With Celtic and Nordic influences coming from the Vikings, Irish culture has a
folklore full of mythological beings. Fairies, elves and wizards are part of it.
No wonder Leprechaun is always related to matters about Ireland, especially on St.
Patrick's Day. When many people go out dressed as elves on the streets of Irish
cities.

TWO OFFICIAL LANGUAGES

The main language spoken in Ireland is English (and with a very sharp accent, stronger
than British English), but Gaelic (Irish) is also considered the official language of the
country. However, it is not all Irish who speak Gaelic.
It is more common to see the people of the cities of the interior speaking both
languages. Even so, all the plates in the country are written in both languages.
