developing and enhancing assemblies, as these items speed
up the estimating process and can ultimately be passed to a
scheduling software package.

user’s manual that is installed with the software. The user’s
manual is in PDF format and requires Adobe Acrobat Reader
to open. The user manual is opened by selecting WinEst
User’s Manual from the WinEst 2006 PH Edition folder
under the Start menu.
WinEst includes a calculator that can be accessed by
clicking on the WinEst Calculator icon shown in Figure G.7.

Another feature of the WinEst software is the selection
of assemblies from the Database Browser. The user switches
to assemblies by selecting the Assemblies radio button at the
top left corner of the Database Browser. This feature allows
the estimator to select component parts of the project rather
than specific items. For example, slab on grade would be an
assembly. With that assembly, the estimator would provide
dimensions and specifications. The software would then
generate all of the items within that assembly and their asso-
ciated quantities based on the provided dimensions. The
