Here we present a variety of suggestions to further the journey of continu-
ous growth toward internalization of the Habits of Mind. The suggestions
demonstrate the use of the Habits of Mind in classrooms, schools, and
communities. The list is grouped according to the dimensions that con-
tribute to internalization of the Habits of Mind. Remember that the con-
tinuum is not sequential. For that reason, we do not list these in any order
of priority. We encourage you to read through and consider each idea.
Some of these ideas may not work for your setting; others may be
highly relevant. Your team, group, or staff may wish to rank each item
according to the following scale:
•A = Already doing it.
•P = A good possibility.
•M = A must—implement immediately!
•U = Unlikely—it won’t fly!
After ranking, develop an action plan to implement the Ms, appoint a
subcommittee to study the Ps, and congratulate yourselves for already
doing the As!
At the end of each dimension, you’ll see that the list is purposefully
incomplete. Encourage your staff members, students, and community
