Appendix C
Metric Conversions
This appendix lists some typical means of converting quantities
in the English system into values in the metric system (and vice versa).
Tables C-1 through C-6 list the typical multiplying factor for various
units. However, temperature conversions require specific formulas. These
formulas follow:
- To convert degrees Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius, use one of the
following formulas:
5
°C = — (°F – 32°)
9
or
°F – 32°
°C = ———
1.8
- To change degrees Celsius to degrees Fahrenheit, use one of the
following formulas:
9
°F = — (°C) + 32°)
5
or
°F = 1.8 (°C) + 32°
- Degrees Celsius may be converted to Kelvins by using:
°C = K – 273.16°
- Kelvins can be converted to degrees Celsius by simply changing the
formula in Step 3 to:
K = °C + 273.16°
