ORTHOPEDICS
TREATMENT
Thumb spica splint, orthopedics referral
COMPLICATIONS
Avascular necrosis: The more proximal the fracture, the greater likelihood of
avascular necrosis and the longer the fracture needs to be immobilized.
TRIQUETRALFRACTURE
Fracture of the triquetrum is the second most common carpal fracture. It is
usually a dorsal chip fracture but can also occur through the body of the tri-
quetrum (which is associated with perilunate and lunate dislocations).
MECHANISM
Direct blow to the bone or impingement of the ulnar styloid with dorsiflexion
and ulnar deviation.
DIAGNOSIS
Tenderness distal to ulnar styloid
TREATMENT
Volar splint
LUNATEFRACTURE
Lunate fracture is the third most common carpal fracture. It usually occurs in
association with other injuries (rare to have isolated lunate fracture)!
