Operational Amplifier Applications Unit 5 – Band Pass Filter

NEW TERMS AND WORDS

center frequency (fO) - the frequency at the midpoint of the passband.
lower cutoff frequency (f 1 ) - the cutoff frequency at the beginning of the passband.
lower 3 dB down point - the 3 dB down point below f0.
upper cutoff frequency (f 2 ) - the cutoff frequency at the end of the passband.
upper 3 dB down point - the 3 dB down point above f0.
narrow-band pass filters - band pass filters with a minimum Q of 10.
wide-band pass filters - band pass filters with a Q less than 10.
selectivity - a band pass filter's ability to pick out a specific range of frequency.
Q-factor - a measure of a band pass filter's selectivity, defined by the range.
band pass filter - a filter that passes frequencies over a specific range, or band.
