the gurney to be taken to the operating room. Before they rolled him into
surgery, I prayed for him and Randy, then I gave Charlie a kiss on the
forehead and said the words God has been saying over each of us since
the beginning of time and the beginning of our lives. I whispered in his
ear, “Charlie, be not afraid.” By the end of the eight-hour surgery, Randy
had done what he does better than anyone else in the world. Charlie was
restored.
