forth by God through creation and through God’s breath, which He breathed into
Adam, so he became a living being (Genesis 2:7). Eve was also created by God, but
from Adam’s rib to signify the oneness of their union. This new creation, made in
God’s image, from the beginning also imitated the unity of God.

Man illustrates the unity of God. Adam was one when He was made. Then out of
him God made Eve and they became two. Then out of the union of the two God
made them offspring, and so it has been ever since.

And so this lengthy discourse lays the foundation of our sonship in God, no matter
who we are, born again or not. We all descended from Adam, and so we are all
God’s sons, made in His image. God intricately creates each of us in our mothers’
womb, like He did that first time, on the sixth day in the garden. Thus David says
in Psalm 139:13, ‘For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s
womb.’

How we came into this world does not negate the fact that God created each of us.
Adam was created from the dust of the earth, then God breathed His life into him:
Eve was made from Adam’s rib: All the rest of us were made from a union between
Adam and Eve (that is, man and woman). The end result is the same; we were
created. This union forms the family unit, and family is a symbol of God’s
household.

And so Paul says in Acts 17: 28,^ ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As
some of your own poets have said, “We are his offspring.”’
Indeed we are all God’s
offspring, God’s children.
