electromagnetic spectrum.
Achieving this milestone discovery Penzias and Wilson were
awarded a Nobel prize. It is their discovery which resurrected
the Big Bang theory, and a fatal blow on Steady State theory, as
the cosmic microwave background radiation proved that the
universe was in fact expanding and traversing back in time, it
had begun from a bang.
The study of this CMB radiation with advanced instruments
such as the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotrope Probe (WMAP),
Cosmic Observation Background Exploratory (COBE) and
through the BOOMERanG experiment had led to discovery of
phenomena occurred at primordial epochs of the cosmos. The
global map of the CMBr has blue and red patches which shows
hot regions of very high temperature (red) and cold regions of
low temperature (blue). This is a picture of cosmic structure
formation during after the big bang.
Although such a triumph was achieved, there were other
problems still left to be answered. What caused that bang to
bang at first place? Why it banged? And how all structures were
formed out of it? And also at that moment, it was known that the
cosmos was decelerating in its expansion due to domination of
force of gravity. This would not explain the uniformity of the
universe from its early epochs.
