from then it was known that the cosmological constant has a
non-zero value determined by the rate of expansion of the
universe. For a positive cosmological constant value, the
modeled universe is accelerating resembling a de sitter universe,
for a negative value its decelerating and zero value it is a
constantly expanding (neither decelerating nor accelerating)
model of the cosmos.
Space geometries and the fate of the universe
If the universe was given birth from a bang what will be its
possible fate? According to general relativity, our universe
resides in a positively curved space, this is space with a curved
surface like that of a 3-sphere in which parallel lines converge.
But according to perpetual calculations, space seems to be
almost flat.
There are other two possible geometries of space and l had
already discussed about them in that part of Einstein’s Physics
above, these are:
(1) a negatively curved space which has a geometry like that of a
saddle in which parallel lines diverge, and
(2) a flat universe without curvature in which parallel lines are
always parallel, Euclidean three dimensional space:
