PRIDE CHEKERA‘ The Gods Must Be Crazy’
Xi's society in the movie ‘The Gods Must Be Crazy’ is a
fantastic example of the roots of human belief systems. A drink
bottle dropped by a white man from an airplane, to them was a
bad omen dropped by God which caused instability at their
homestead. They would sit silently, sad and distracted starring at
the bottle, believing that something bad had snatched their
happiness. At one moment, Xi threw the bottle upwards thinking
that it will go straight into the skies, back to the gods. He didn’t
know about the force of gravity; the bottle simply falls back to
the ground. This even worsen the situation, as a head of the
society, he thought that the bottle need to be thrown away out of
the world. Along his journey to the end of the world, he met
civilized white men. Looking at them, all to Xi, they were
actually gods with human nature. Throughout the movie, Xi was
stressed by the bottle, that he keep on his journey to the end of
the world to dump the bottle. At last, he arrived at a high
mountain landscape, with clouds hovering on top. Yah, he
thought. That's the end of the world, then he threw the bottle
away, and from then onwards his family was happy again. The
bad omen had been discarded, they praised their God, he had led
them along the way to throw away that thing which had grabbed
their happiness.
