A first impression
In 1608, a Dutch eyeglass maker, Hans Lippershey ( 1570 - 1619)
invented the first simple telescope ever. This was the turning
point of the human civilization, beginning to seek for the
objective truth which shapes our understanding of the universe.
A famous, Italian astronomer, Galileo Galilee (1564-1642) was
the first person ever, in 1609, to look up through a telescope.
Galileo was born in 1564, in Pisa in Italy. In the year 1589, he
was inaugurated as a mathematics professor at a university in
Pisa. In 1592, he became a professor at Padua, and in 1610 was
appointed chief mathematician to the Great Duke of Tuscany,
Florence.
