was used to bomb the British in World War 2 (1944-45). Von
Braun proposed a design of a structure called Wernher Von
Braun Wheel, in which he declared that the wheel will be
orbiting the earth and astronauts living in its rim as its rotation
creates gravity. This wheel was never built. Robert Hutchings
Goddard was the first person to invent a liquid-fuel propelled
rocket which he launched in 1926. He is now regarded as the
father of rocketry and there is space launching pad in USA
named after his name, Goddard Space Flight Center. These all
achievements basing on Newton’s physics provided ample force
to drive us towards the stars. Major Yuri Gagarin of Soviet
Airforce was launched in Vostok 1 from Russia into Earth’s
orbit on 12 April 1961 and became the first man ever to enter
space. The period of his flight was about 1 hour 40 minutes in
which he witnessed the unseen enveloping the beauty of the
cosmos. Before that, on 4 October 1957, Soviet Union launched
the first probe into space, Sputnik 1. On 20 February 1962, USA
carried its first manned orbital flight as it puts astronaut John
Glenn into orbit. He became the first American into space. From
16 - 18 June 1963, a Soviet Union cosmonaut Valentina
Tereshkova became the first woman into space boarding Vostok
- In 1969, Apollo 11 astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Buzz
Aldrin landed on lunar surface from the Eagle lunar module.
