Above we had witnessed the beauty of Newtonian physics and
the achievements it brings as we visit other places in space
beyond our planet. Gravity holding satellites, telescopes and
probes in orbit all put us on another level of advancement. But
also the power of Newton’s physics is manifested in discoveries
made due to its predictions. One of which is the periodical
Halley’s comet.
Comets were seen since ancient moments, but no one had much
curiosity towards them, they were just considered as something
concerned with some unknown mystical divine forces.
In 1682, after Newton had discovered gravity, and laid down his
three laws, an English scientist, nobleman, Edmond Halley
(1656-1742) observed a comet sweeping across the night sky.
Halley was a friend of Isaac Newton, whose Principia he
financed. Edmond Halley was a pioneer geophysicist and
meteorologist who worked in many other fields including
mathematics. He is well known for that comet he observed in
1682, the so-called Halley's comet. From his calculations, basing
on Newtonian mechanics, he discovered that the comet was to
return in 1759. For sure, the comet returned during the
Christmas eve of 1759. Halley's comet is a comet that orbits the
sun approximately, every 76 years. It is the brightest and most
