astronomer Johann Galle searched for the planet using his new
charts of the Aquarius region and, luckily, discovered Neptune
the night of that day.
Thus Newton’s theory made it possible to discover Neptune, the
first planet to be mathematically discovered before it was
practically discovered. Orbits of many exoplanets, asteroids and
comets had been deduced using Newton’s Classical Mechanics.
From as apple falling from a tree, to planets orbiting a parent
star as a focus, all obey such trajectories because of Newton’s
physics. This proved the fabulous superiority of physics,
predicting cosmological phenomena consistently fitting with the
observations.
Newton’s gravity is not only behind celestial kinematics, but is
the one in work during formation of stars when interstellar
clouds gravitationally collapse into nebulae. When stars ignite in
these nebulae because of fusion reactions, with time, they will
run out of fuel and explode into supernovae, a transition from
the main sequence. After that, gravity will cause the emitted
remnants of the supernovae to collapse into a very compact
region of space-time, a black hole, or other compact objects like
neutron stars. The Chandrasekhar limit determines whether a
black hole or neutron star or some dwarf stars will be formed.
