But special relativity is not only about time, and it is also
concerned with space. Its space topology is similar to that of
Newtonian physics. Its space is a flat Minikowskian 4
dimensional space-time which doesn't take gravity into account.
Special relativity is only valid in situations which doesn't
involve a change in acceleration. According to principle of
equivalence, acceleration and gravity are equivalent two
manifestations of the same thing. That's what pushed Einstein to
expound a theory of gravity, generally circumscribing all the
kinematics of the heavens.
General Theory of Relativity:
In November 1915, Einstein revolutionized physics for once and
for all. He expounded a theory of gravity after 10 years of
struggle, 10 years in search of a single theory of gravity which
could solve all of Newtonian physics limits. Einstein was not
good in mathematics, he had to consult other outstanding
mathematicians and astronomers for that information which
enabled him to show his creative and imaginative talents.
Despite some demotivation and competitions from other great
physicists of the time e.g. J.J Thompson and Hilbert, he never
took it down until 1915.
