40. Following the Treasure Map

You have made known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,

URlittle granddaughter, three-year-old Caroline, has a fairly
irresistible way of requesting what she wants from the adults
in her life. Recently while with her other grandmother she posed this
question: “I’m thirsty, Momlee. What are my options?”
“Well,” her Momlee replied, trying not to laugh, “you may have
milk, water, or lemonade.”
Caroline was thoughtful for a minute before speaking. “You
know,” she said, “root beer is always a good option.”
How often we are like Caroline with our heavenly Father. We pray
fervently for him to show us his will. We ask him to make our
choices clear. And then when he answers our prayers in no uncer-
tain terms, we try to slip in a suggestion that is more to our liking.
