41. It Gets Better Than This!

Revelation 22:20I
Na recent movie, As Good as It Gets, a man named Melvin, played
by Jack Nicholson, exits his psychiatrist’s office into a room where
several other patients are waiting. With a sardonic look on his face
Melvin says to them, “What if this is as good as it gets?”
Many people live with Melvin’s long-term diagnosis of life. With
no hope of heaven, they believe that life as they now know it is all
there is.
Journalist Peggy Noonan has said:
We are the first generation of man that actually expected to find
happiness here on earth, and our search for it has caused such
unhappiness. The reason: If you do not believe in another, higher
world, if you believe only in the flat material world around you, if
you believe that this is your only chance at happiness... then
you are not disappointed when the world does not give you a
good measure of its riches, you are despairing.^1
