101 Most Powerful Prayers in the Bible

(avery) #1

What Jesus holds out to us is real and it is eternal. It has nothing
to do with this flat, material world. It has nothing to do with what
the stock market is doing today. It is not affected by headlines or
wars or crimes or scandals. It has everything to do with the Lord’s
promise of a glorious life that gets better than this.
“Behold, I am coming soon!” said Jesus to John in the Book of
Revelation.

“My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according
to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and
the Last, the Beginning and the End.
“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the
right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.
“... I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for
the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the
bright Morning Star.”
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears
say, “Come!” Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever
wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.
(Revelation 22:12–14, 16–17)

To this beautiful invitation to eternal life the apostle John
breathed a very short prayer. “Amen,” he said, which means “so be
it.” Then, “Come, Lord Jesus.” This is a prayer of belief in the one
who is coming, and relief that the time is near.
Let us pray along with John, and then get ready, brothers and sis-
ters. It gets better than this!
