42. It Is Finished

Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his

spirit.

John 19:30

URSavior spoke his last prayer to his Father from the cross.
He knew that his work was done. Everything that God had
commissioned him to carry out he had completed.
Looking at our Lord’s life from an earthly perspective, some find
it hard to see it as one of great accomplishment. It looks inglorious,
to say the least.

• He who had stood at God’s right hand left the glory of his heav-
  enly body to take on the frailty of a human body.


• He who had cocreated a universe with his heavenly Father
  spent his days patiently learning carpentry from his earthly fa-
  ther.


• He who had known the Almighty from before the foundation
  of time humbly “learned” of him as a boy in the temple and
  worshiped him there as a man.
