43. Open the Eyes of Our Hearts

I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that
you may know the hope to which he has called you.

VERYnow and then a new song flows like water into the thirsty
church, crossing denominational lines, making its way into the
hearts of God’s people. Paul Baloche wrote one such song when he
composed “Open the Eyes of My Heart.” I heard him say in a seminar
that he was not even trying to write a song the day he wrote it. He was
simply worshiping God, singing a paraphrase of Ephesians 1:18.
So many of us live in a world of rush and stress. How we need
moments of worship in which we stop and focus our spiritual eyes
on Jesus. Scripture tells us to “seek the LORDand His strength; / seek
His face continually” (1 Chron. 16:11 NASB). “My eyes are continu-
ally toward the LORD,” said the psalmist, “for He will pluck my feet
out of the net” (Ps. 25:15 NASB).
