Nthis plaintive prayer David had lost his faith in humankind. He
was crying out for a friend, casting his eyes about for one true-
hearted person. Face-to-face, gaze to gaze, where is the one who will
not flatter or lie? The one who will not con or swindle? The one who
will deal evenly and honestly?
Have you ever felt like this? During an election, for instance, have
you ever felt that each politician was pointing the accusing finger at
his opponent while self-righteously puffing out his own chest as
though he were humanity’s answer?
During the Wall Street scandals of 2002, were you stunned to see
businesspeople you had thought were on the up-and-up sinking to
new lows in business ethics?
