53. A Prayer for Wisdom

I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers:
You have given me wisdom and power,
you have made known to me
what we asked of you.

HENmy son Andy and his wife Jenni were asked to be
youth pastors at Christ Church in Mobile, they felt they
were standing on shaky ground.
They had some experience as Young Life leaders and camp coun-
selors. But when they talked to other youth pastors in the area they
always came away feeling underqualified. Why? They had not had
any formal training or schooling in the field.
Still they felt God drawing their hearts to the job. So they deter-
mined to pray for wisdom as they made their decision. What would
God have them do?
As they began to pray and listen to God, Andy heard him saying,
“How educated was Peter? Or James or John? And yet they answered
my call. What makes you different? Are you putting formal educa-
tion above my right to lead you into my own plans?”
