101 Most Powerful Prayers in the Bible

(avery) #1

As calmly as he could, the young man said, “Daddy, I’ve driven all
night because I need something from you.”
“I knew it!” he shouted. “I always said you’d amount to no good.”
“It’s not like that, Daddy,” the young man said. “I don’t want
money. It’s just that I’ve been studying about the power of being
blessed by your father. And I realized that’s something I’ve never had
from you. So I just thought if you could think up something good to
say to me—that might make a difference. You don’t even have to
look at me when you say it. I’ll go in my old bedroom and wait until
you’re ready.”
Finally his father agreed.
“I have no idea how long I sat there,” the young man said. “I could
hear my daddy pacing in the hall outside my door. Finally the door-
knob turned and he came in. He was standing behind me. And then
I felt drops of water on my collar. Tears. My daddy’s tears!”
“Son,” the man finally said, “I’m so sorry. I never said a single
good thing to you. I was always so critical. But maybe it’s not too
late. I love you, son. And I bless you.”
“Pastor,” the young man said, “I walked away from my father’s
house a changed man. Everything’s changed. I’ve lost weight. I’m
even dating a pretty girl. I feel like there’s nothing I can’t do.”
Our Father in heaven is always ready to pour out his parental
blessing on us. Let us seek him humbly and ask him for what we
need.

Father, thank you for your always available blessing. You know the
hole in our hearts from blessings we may not have received as chil-
dren. Touch us and heal us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
