I know, O LORD, that a man’s life is not his own;
it is not for man to direct his steps.

NEof my favorite poems (by that well-known poet, Anony-
mous) pictures life as a bike ride. Only it is a tandem bike and
Jesus is on the back, helping us pedal. Then at some point Jesus
makes the suggestion that we change places with him, and once we
do, life is never quite the same! We find ourselves going at breakneck
speeds through rocky passes, desperate to hold on.
But Jesus only smiles and says, “Pedal.”
Though he never tells us exactly where we’re going, we begin to
trust him. We simply leave our boring existence behind. And when
we’re afraid, he leans back and touches our hands.
