77. Meditations of My Heart

R

May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
Psalm 19:14

HATI speak reveals volumes about me. My words are out
there in the airwaves for everyone to hear. But the medita-
tions of my heart—my thoughts and my feelings—are something
else. They are the silent ruminations of my spirit. They are unspo-
ken prayers that only God can hear.
French author Victor Hugo put it this way: “Certain thoughts are
prayers. There are moments when whatever the attitude of the body,
the soul is on its knees.” When the silent soul is on its knees, these
prayers are called meditation.
There are certain things we can do to move our spirits into a place
of meditation. I remember reading a magazine article several years
ago called “The Jogging Nun.” It detailed the life of a nun who used
her time of exercise to set her spirit on God. Each step of her jogging
shoes became a prayer.
