HYLLISMcGinley, a Pulitzer Prize–winning poet, wrote one of my
favorite books on the joys of raising a family and keeping a
home. Her book, Sixpence in Her Shoe,was in its eleventh printing
when I first bought it. Though I’ve read through it many times, I still
pick it up from time to time and find something profound in its
pages. Today I read one such remark: “Praise is like love; it helps the
world move smoothly.”
I never would have thought to word it that way, but I believe her
words are true. I’ve seen it play out in my own life, for somehow
when I’m praising the Father, the world around me seems to turn
with more grace and beauty.
Did you ever wonder: Aren’t we really telling the Lord what he al-
