97. The Blessing of a Home

I long to dwell in your tent forever
and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
Psalm 61:4R
ECENTLYwe attended a “house blessing,” a service to dedicate a
family’s home to God. We were given verses and candles to carry.
As we walked from room to room inviting God’s blessing, the service
went like this.
(Leader knocks from outside the front door or from the foyer.)
Child: “Who knocks at our door?”
Leader: (representing Christ) “Here I am! I stand at the door and
knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in
and eat with him, and he with me” [Rev. 3:20].
Leader: “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house’ ”
[Luke 10:5].
All: Peace to this house.
