101 Most Powerful Prayers in the Bible

(avery) #1
good over bad. But unless I’ve placed myself before God’s Word
and surrendered my heart to him in prayer, I have a very tough
time choosing between good and best.^1

I have definitely found this to be true in my life. The enemy can
rarely trip me up on the choices that lie between black and white.
Where he gets me is on the choices that fall into the categories of
gray. For instance, I would never get confused about the question of
whether I should rob a bank or go to church. That’s black and white.
But gray areas might be whether to watch television or spend some
time studying the Word; whether to go shopping or go to visit a
friend in the hospital; whether to give the house a good cleaning or
take a nap.
There is nothing wrong with watching TV or shopping or nap-
ping. The question is simply what would God have me do now? Or
as the little bracelet puts it—WWJD? What would Jesus do?
I believe our Father wants to supply us with his love, his knowl-
edge, and his insight so that we will be equipped to make the
strongest possible choices in every area. How can we cooperate with
God in his desire? Author Beth Moore suggested that we become
strong “choosers” by “starving the flesh and feeding the spirit.”^2
Feeding the Spirit involves plenty of time in the Word, in fellowship
with other believers, and especially in prayer. As we follow this pre-
scription we will find ourselves more and more able to choose not
only what is good but what is God’s best.

Father, I thank you for desiring wonderful things in my life. Enrich
my study of your Word. Give me strong Christian relationships. And
draw me into a deeper prayer life so that I may choose the best.
Amen.
