31. A Special Psalm

I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1–2M
ANYyears ago as a newlywed living in Fort Knox, Kentucky,
I took part in an amateur production of The Diary of Anne
Frank.Anne, you’ll remember, grew up in a Jewish family in World
War II Holland. Friends took in her family and hid them from the
Nazis. The play followed the stresses and joys of the Frank family
during their confinement, which Anne recorded in her journal, and
it ended with their capture by German soldiers.
Though I would have preferred the role of Anne, I believe the
Lord placed me in the role of Mrs. Frank for a reason. I was not a be-
liever at the time. I did not know the Word of God. But my part re-
quired me to memorize the words of Psalm 121, which begins, “I lift
up my eyes to the hills— / where does my help come from? / My
help comes from the LORD, / the Maker of heaven and earth.”
By the power of the Holy Spirit, those words stayed in my heart
