9.4.3.2 Antibacterials Targeting the Ribosomal 30S Subunit: Aminoglycosides


Clinically useful aminoglycosides contain a highly substituted 1,3-diaminocyclohexane
central ring and amino sugars (such as an aminohexose) linked glycosidically. Originally
they were isolated from the actinomycetes, particularly from the genus Streptomyces.
Seven important aminoglycoside congeners were isolated from that genus: streptomycin
