Because the business has an intimate relationship with the data and works with it on a
daily basis, the decision as to what goes into a data warehouse should be made by it or with
it. Not using its knowledge could result in a data warehouse that contains inaccurate or
irrelevant data. As a result, time and money could be wasted building a solution that may
never be used.

Surrogate Keys
The foundation of any star schema design is the foreign keys that exist between the fact
and dimension tables. However, you should not use the primary and foreign keys that exist
in the OLTP database or databases that act as the source for your data warehouse. Instead,
